Wolves Twinsbet bolstered its frontcourt by adding Lithuanian center Marek Blaževič upon his return from Spain. The Vilnius-based club announced that they have signed the 6’11” slotman to a one-year contract.
The 22-year-old player spent two seasons in the Southern European country representing Monbus Obradoiro (Obradoiro CAB) of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia in the Spanish ACB league. He averaged 7.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.9 minutes of action last season.
His Spanish team also competed in the FIBA Champions League selection, with Blazevic notching 6 points and 2.7 rebounds in the three games he played.
“We are happy that a young 22-year-old man from Vilnius is joining our team. Marek is still a growing basketball player, has experience in the Euroleague, and spent a couple of seasons in one of the strongest leagues in Europe. We have no doubt that this accumulated experience has hardened the player and he will help our team fight both in the Lithuanian championship and in the European Cup, and we will try to help him continue to improve and move forward”, asserted Donatas Zavackas, Wolves Twinsbet sports director.
The Vilnius-born Blazevic got his first taste of professional basketball with BC Rytas of Vilnius. He played for a couple of years in the reserve team, then eventually as part of the main team in the Betsafe-LKL championships.
After that stint, he moved to BC Zalgiris of Kaunas where he spent two seasons with the team and made his debut in the Euroleague. During his first year, Blazevic appeared sparingly in the most competitive European tournament, but by his second season, he gained more trust from the coaches and logged per-game averages of 11.9 minutes of playing time along with 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds.
In the same season, Blazevic was among the top three candidates voted by Euroleague head coaches in the EuroLeague to win the Rising Star Trophy together with Rokas Jokubaitis and Victor Wembanyama.
After playing for Kaunas, Blazevic began his career as an import and made his way to the top professional basketball league in Spain.
Having represented Lithuania in the U16 European Youth Championship, the center made his debut as a 19-year-old playing for the senior men’s national team and fought for the country’s cause in the qualifying tournaments for both FIBA EuroBasket 2022 and FIBA World Cup 2023.
Marek Blazevic joins Anthony Cowan and Matas Jogela as the off-season signings by Wolves Twinsbet. Jeffery Taylor, Vaidas Kariniauskas, Kristupas Zemaitis, and Regimantas Miniotas also currently have contracts with the Lithuanian club.
